College Building:
The proposal to train staff officers for British Indian Army dates back to 1875. In 1902, as part of reorganization of the Army in India, FM Lord Kitchener decided to establish a satellite Staff College.
In January 1904, Rs 633,400 were sanctioned by the Government of India for the construction of College. Temporary accommodation was provided at Deolali, near Bombay for two years while construction was underway at Quetta.
In 1907, with the basic infrastructure completed, the College moved to Quetta and in 1908 was re-designated ‘Staff College, Quetta’.
On 31st May 1935 a severe earthquake decimated Quetta. Miraculously, the main Staff College building survived but not without some cracks. The rebuilding process, 1935 to 1937, saw the commissioning of the present Officers’ Mess.
The old building was pulled down on 26 March 1971 and the present one rose at the same spot in 1976. The building was inaugurated on 7th April 1976 by the Prime Minister, Mr Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto.
